How GTA VI's new weapon and item selectors work

GTA VI redesigns the weapon wheel and adds an item selector for equipping gear on the spot, including a bandana before a hold-up.

The weapon wheel remains, with clearer organisation

GTA VI keeps the radial selection familiar from GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, while more clearly separating firearms, melee combat and equipment. The WEAPONS tab places each category around the character and keeps information about the selected weapon in the centre.

The apparent goal is to reduce steps during tense situations. The wheel still slows the action while a choice is made, but provides a cleaner view of the available inventory and what each protagonist has equipped.

Items become part of the action

A second ITEMS tab allows accessories to be selected and used without opening a wardrobe or separate menu. Wearable objects appear in the screenshot and the bandana includes a PUT ON action, confirming that part of the character's appearance can be changed on the move.

We do not yet know which items fit in this wheel or whether capacity depends on a bag, vehicle or individual character. The important point is that equipment is no longer purely cosmetic: it can be prepared at the exact moment the player decides to act.

The bandana connects inventory and police systems

The sequence moves from the selector to Lucia standing outside a store with her face covered. It does not look like a random outfit change for the video: it happens immediately before a possible robbery and fits the police indicators that track face, clothing, companion and vehicle.

Covering up before an offence may prevent the face from being identified, whereas doing it afterwards may be too late if cameras or witnesses already saw the character. The accessory therefore acts as a preparation tool rather than just a cosmetic option.

What this may change during a mission

Keeping weapons and items within one selector lets the player react without leaving the scene. They may move from a discreet entry to a firefight, change appearance during an escape or prepare a specific tool for stealing a vehicle.

Rockstar has not yet detailed weight, storage or equipment-loss limits. The images confirm the two-tab structure and immediate use of the bandana; comparisons with Red Dead Redemption 2's full inventory remain a reasonable expectation rather than a confirmed feature.
